San Diego

Last weekend we took the train and went to San Diego.  It was a lot of walking, but we all enjoyed it.  The train down was busy, but we were fortunate to get four seats together.  The kids did great on the train and kept busy with their activity books.  Then we took the ferry to Coronado, and they played in the water there on the beach.

The second day we took the bus to the Zoo.  We saw most of the Zoo, but by about 2pm were all hot and tired.  The third day we went to the Midway in the morning, then took the train back in the afternoon.  We had a pet sitter stay with Ruby which worked out really well.  She's so much more comfortable being home then being boarded.  I still can't believe school starts in just over a week.  This whole summer has just gone by so quickly.

Summer flying by

Summer is going WAY too quickly, I can' t believe it's already August.  The kids don't start school until August 27th this year, so we have a few more weeks, but it still feels so close.

They've really been enjoying their camps.  Daphne did 2 weeks of Art Camp at Rec Park with Natalie Strong, and Girl Scout Camp.  They did tons of arts and crafts at Girl Scout camp, and she loved it.  Silas did Guitar camp and did a great performance at the end.  He also did skateboard camp at the skate park, and basketball camp.  I'm so proud of them both for trying new things.  They've also both been doing a lot of swimming and have been doing great.  Silas just passed Level 6, and Daphne finished level 4.

We're going to San Diego on Thursday which should be a lot of fun, and we have one more camping trip to Leo Carillo.  I just need to remember to soak in all these moments, because they'll be back in school too quickly.

Camping, 4th of July and Soap Box Derby

The kids haven't had camp the last 2 weeks.  We went camping at O'Neil Regional Park with Ruby last week.  It was fun, but very HOT during the day.  Poor Ruby, I thought she was going to melt.  Daphne and I watched fireworks from Library Park which was a good view.  Silas and Steve watched from around the corner.

Silas races in the Cub Scouts Soap Box derby in the Creeper.  It was a really fun event and I'm so glad he did it.  Both kids did great in their swim lessons this session and they're going to do one more session.  Daphne will be in level 3 and Silas will be in level 6.  Next week Silas has guitar camp and Daphne has art camp.

Swimming

We've been swimming a lot this summer.  Silas finished Level 4 lessons and is enrolled in Level 5.  Daphne is doing Level 2 this session, but she definitely could have been in Level 3.  They are both learning so fast, it inspired me to try to learn to swim also.

Of course we've also done some more park days, we went back to Anderson Park in Redondo Beach which we haven't been to in probably a few years.  I have so many memories there of Silas as a toddler trying to navigate the little kids' playground, now he's one of the oldest kids there!  We also stopped by Baskin Robbins, the kids agreed ColdStone is "way better" :)
